Living Together Well: Possibilities for ‘Deep Equality’ Amid Religious Diversity

With Dr Guilherme Borges and Dr Morgane Reina

Join the Department of Sociology & the Social Repair Research Group for a seminar on Living Together Well: Possibilities for ‘Deep Equality’ Amid Religious Diversity with Dr Guilherme Borges and Dr Morgane Reina from the Centro Brasileiro de Análise e Planejamento.

The seminar aims to examine new analytical perspectives on how religious diversity is navigated in daily life, particularly in Brazilian contexts. Attention will be directed to the possibilities derived from the concept of ‘deep equality’, formulated by Lori G. Beaman, to observe practices of coexistence that transcend legal and political determinations. These practices — also referred to as ‘non-events’ — are characterised as existing outside the official and legal norms that regulate social, including interreligious, interactions.
